Take a look, it’s in a book

How is already Friday? I feel like I was released from school just a few weeks ago, but it’s already been over a month. I’m saddened by the fact that in another month I will begin my summer class and then another two weeks after that is the fall semester.

One of my goals this summer was to diminish the pile of books beside my bed. I’ve actually read some of those books, but I’ve also added to the list. Here is a more accurate picture. This does not include the books I have via my kindle, nook, and iBook apps. I am pretty sure I have at least 50 books via kindle, Gray has a few via the nook, and I have a few via iBook, mostly pdfs I’ve downloaded.

My goal is to get through that list above by the end of the summer. I’m going to try and wean myself from buying paperback. It’s not that I don’t love a real book, it’s that we’re running out of room for them. I can’t bare to part with my collection and we have at least three bookshelves. What can I say, we both love books. However, I’m the one with the horrible habit of buying a book and not reading it. It’s like I have a problem with just buying them. Yes, I do read them, eventually, but how many people do you know have a stack of over 15 books they just bought? Well, I bought a few, most were actually gifts.

The truth is that I ask for books for gifts, Christmas or birthday. I know that if I don’t ask, I’ll have a tough time deciding exactly which book I’d like to buy. This is how Gray ended up on the receiving end of a Barnes and Noble gift card, I couldn’t decided what book I wanted more and then I remembered I already had 15 to read.

I managed to get my review book pile down to one. This will change when I receive the next book, but I’ve had the strength to turn down offers. As hard as that is for me, unless it’s a book that I really want to read, I just can’t commit.

Currently Reading: My Sister’s Keeper and Dead to the World

I started reading this book because I saw a preview for the movie. I’m not even halfway through this book and it’s already applying to my life. Let me explain…

This books has a lot of medical details because the sister has Leukemia and I find myself understanding a lot because we just went over it in Microbiology. Also, the lawyer in the book has a working dog but he isn’t blind. It turns out that there are working dogs for medical alerts, and the neat thing is that a lady has been coming into the lab I work at with one so I’ve seen it and knew what it was!

The movie is out on DVD now and I expect to rent it soon, but I wanted to finish the book first so it may take me a while as it’s a pretty thick book. I’ve never read anything else by the author, but so far, I’m enjoying this and I might venture further in her direction in the future.

This is the other book I am reading and if you didn’t know, it’s part of the Sookie Stackhouse series that HBO’s True Blood is based on. I read the first few books before I watched the TV shows related to them and I’m glad I did because some of the stuff on the TV is from later books like 3 and 4. I’m interested to see how the TV show goes because they are a little off track from the books, but that’s another post. :)
