It’s been a busy week! In our household, an Xbox was acquired a few weeks ago and we’ve had a fun time of acquiring new games, the majority used, but hey…it’s cheaper!

With the Xbox, we bought the Kinect add-on. It’s the FUTURE people and so much fun!

So, of course, I had to get at least one workout game for the Kinect since I have so many for the Wii already. I had a hard time choosing, so I got two: The Biggest Loser and Your Shape. I had received Your Shape to review over a year ago and (ironically) I just gave it to Trina and Sam, and then I saw they had it for the Kinect. Sorry Sam and Trina, but it’s way better on the Kinect! On the Wii, it uses a camera and the Kinect uses something similar, but it’s more advanced and therefore, more accurate.

This is NOT supposed to be a review, btw… just sharing my purchase… any who… I tried both “games” out this week as my exercise and was really excited. The Kinect does a great job of informing you if you’re doing right or not, so I couldn’t cheat… and if you get too tired, it stops the program for you… so fabulous!

Now to eating… eh… it didn’t go as great as I would have hoped. I’ve officially stopped eating a certain food I was partaking in that contained gluten. I honestly thought a little gluten wouldn’t hurt me… but it does… somewhere my friend Ursula (a nursing buddy) is shaking her head… because I told her about this and she just looked at me like, “DUH Becca, Don’t eat it!” heh

So yeah… it’s also been a bit harder because all my flours came in… because going gluten-free means you have about 15 flours in your house to make different concoctions. This week we had homemade pizza (WIN!), store bought pasta (bleh), and then I made homemade gluten-free cookies… and they weren’t bad, but not as good as they could be. We did stock up on lettuce, some veggies, and fruits so salads and fruit salad have been here too, but the eating out (laziness) wasn’t that great…

So that’s why I lost a little, but not a lot this week.

We also bought a new scale, because the other one literally changed every time we weighed. The new one tells me fat %, water weight, BMI, and approximately how many calories I should consume for how many weeks to reach my goal weight My ultimate goal is 120… so that’s 25 pounds to lose and according to my scale I should be eating about 1700 calories for the next 20 weeks and I’ll lose them.

Onward to the numbers…

This Week: 145.2 lbs
Last Week: 145.4 lbs
Challenge Total Loss: -.8 lbs
Total Weigh Loss since August ’10 (153 lbs): 7.8 lbs

Sorry about the book I just wrote. I have so much to blog about so I guess I’d better get cracking so this entry doesn’t go much longer. :)

Last year I didn’t really bother with resolutions or goals, other than doing Project 365. I figured, I had the 101 in 1001 days list, so I decided to just stick with it.

I’m still working on that list, but I thought I’d lay out some goals for this year.

Read my bible daily – It’s something I struggle with and want to do better. My goal is to read daily, or as much as possible. I hope this becomes a habit as it has been in the past.

Read through a couple’s devotional with Gray – We have a couple’s Bible so I’d like to do this daily as well. We’re going to set aside a time of the day that works for both of us and keep to it.

Exercise 3-4 times a week – I have no plans for any races at the moment, although I’d like to do the Middle half again in October. My current plan is to stick with my workout Wii games. I just bought the Zumba for Wii and it’s pretty awesome so far. We also just bought an Xbox with Kinect so I’m sure those games will be fun. :)

Read for pleasure – I know this may seem silly, but I have a stack of 20 books beside my bed, not to mention 40 on my kindle app. I’d like to read for at least 15-30 minutes each day, if not more.

Drink 8 cups of water each day.

Blog 2-3 times a week about something besides photos and weight loss – When I did my year in review, I realized that there wasn’t much to choose from, except in November. While I can’t say I’ll blog every day, I want to make more posts that are interesting.

Eat healthier – We’ve made the switch to gluten-free and I now have several cookbooks that give me options for more than just the same meals over and over. I’d like to meal plan according to what we need to eat… aka the food pyramid. I need to start planning our meals to make sure we’re getting the proper nutrition.

Date Night – I want to set aside time as a couple each week to do something together… whether it’s watch a movie, play a board game, go out, whatever it is… it would just be the two of us.

I may add to this list as I think of it, but this is just a start of what I’d like to carry out this year. I think this first semester of school will be tough because I’ll be starting clinicals and I’ll be working on Saturdays. My days are going to be harder but I’m sure I can adjust. I just need to make the important things of life a priority, which means I’ll have to stay away from the internet more, or at least be more productive with my time on the internet.

I couldn’t sleep very well Friday night, or at least my body wouldn’t go to sleep. I finally did go to sleep and woke up at five, Saturday morning.

I grabbed my running clothes and all my accessories, making sure my iPhone was full charged, and then by 5:45 we headed over to the race. We live literally five minutes away so parking was not even close to full yet.

It was freezing. I tried jogging around a bit, not only to loosen my muscles but because it was so darn cold! I could have worn a jacket to throw off at the beginning, but I recently went through all my jackets and didn’t have one I wanted to give away… selfish maybe, but I didn’t really care.

So I froze for the first bit of the race, oh well.

I went to line up at the start and saw a woman who comes into the lab a lot. I also met two other women, one of which I ended up running with for a few miles.

At 1:21 if you pause, you can see me for a moment. I’m wearing light pink, black pilate pants, and a black bondi band. Next to hot pink girl. ;)

The race began just after seven and we were off! I have to say, there were a few hills that I wasn’t really expecting, but they were in the beginning so that was better than at the end! My headphones got caught up in my bib between miles 2 and 3 so I stopped and then that’s when I found Lory! We ran together for about a mile before I had to stop and walk because of a side stitch.

I had pushed myself too hard.

I made it to mile 6 around 1:15 so I knew I was ok with finishing the race. I saw Gray at miles 6 and 9, where he told me he was taking pictures and sending me facebook comments so I’d keep getting cheers. In theory, it worked for the first few, but after that it was just annoying to have facebook messages pop up. I should have just disabled the push notifications, but I just know realized that idea was a possibility. oops

After mile six is where things were getting old and tiring. I ran as much as possible, but I was still have side stitch problems.

There were a few people around me that I tried to keep up with since at this point my friends were ahead of me. It helped keep me jogging more than walking. I did notice that it was much harder to keep running in the later miles because there weren’t many people on the sidelines. Those miles were along a few roads where most people wouldn’t go out to. I think if I run the Country Music marathon in April it will be more fun because it will literally be sidelines by crowds most, if not all the way.

I saw Gray again at mile 9.

After mile 9, I knew the end was close.

The hardest part was the last two miles. This was a long stretch of road that I drive almost every day and had wondered how the heck I could run it. Well, I ran it off and walked it… it was tough… but doable.

All I can remember is someone in a car inquiring when they would get out of their neighborhood.

By the time we got to mile 13 I was SO HAPPY, just to know the end was in sight!

Mile 13 was the hardest yet because as much as I kept trying to jog, my legs were so tired and didn’t want to, but I started jogging the last .25 or so and kept going… going until I saw Gray who cheered me on. I ran through a line of cheerleaders to the gates for the MTSU track.

“You’re almost there!” yelled a volunteer. I jogged onto the track and wondered how I was going to make the last .10 of a mile… the track was so hard to run on compared to the roads.

As I round the track, they yelled out my name and the finish line was in sight.

I gave it my all, sprinting the last .05 or so of that mile and passed the finish line.

I got a bottle of water, a towel, and my medal.

Someone asked me if I was alright, probably because my lungs were dying about this time and well, I probably looked like death. I replied, ‘Yes” and found Gray… I stretched my legs somewhat and then tried to find my time on the boards, but it wasn’t up yet.

At this point I ran into the woman from the first few miles and we chatted until I found Lory, her sister Kelly, and her friend Jane who also ran.

We decided it was a great idea to wait in line for a massage, so that’s what we did… for a hour. Sadly, none of us got massages because the cut-off-line ended up being right in front of us. Gray went over and found my official time, 2:47:31!

I came home and took a nice bath and then went shopping with Trina and later that night, to Lory’s for a harvest party. It was a great day and I’m glad to have done it. I’m already thinking of my next race, probably a 5k with Gray :).

This is one of those weeks were you look back frustrated because you feel like you did what you could, with little scale victory.

This week I was still with Tribe Silver Belles, we are down to 3 women left so I’m wondering if I’ll go this week, most likely I will be part of Exile Island next week.

This Week: 144.6 lbs
Last Week: 144.8 lbs
Challenge Total Loss: 3 lbs
Total Weigh Loss since August ’10: 9.4 lbs

Week 3 Challenges:
Miles: 15 total!
Tracking my Food: Believe it or not, I wrote down what I ate daily.
Water: As much as I could
Fast Food: NONE
Fruits and Veggies: More than enough! I totally rocked this part!

So yeah, looking back over what I ate the only thing I can come up with is that I had extra water weight this week and just didn’t drink enough water to shake it off.

As you can see, I’m still losing inches, even if I only lost a little. I know I should be happy with a loss, but it’s still frustrating. I was really hoping I’d get the 10# loss button this week. :( I’m also a little afraid that without the competition of my tribe I might fail next week. I’m running the half marathon on Saturday so the rest of the week I won’t be in training anymore. I just hope the 1/2 is enough to help me lose a pound this next week.

So yeah, overall, pretty good week… wishing the scale had been nicer to me. I will be sure and do a post asap after the 1/2 to share all those details. :)

Another week and I must say, I’m feeling awesome. It’s been amazing to stick to these challenges and I’m losing weight, even if it is a pound at a time! My 1/2 training is winding down but I’m still sticking to my change in lifestyle. With that in mind, here are my stats for this week..

This Week: 144.8 lbs
Last Week: 145.8 lbs
Challenge Total Loss: 2.8 lbs
Total Weigh Loss since August ’10: 9.2 lbs

Week 3 Challenges:
Fastest Mile: 11’34!
Veggies/Fruits: I rocked this one! I totally got in my servings every day, maybe even more! Yesterday alone I had carrots twice, potatoes, and a banana!
Water: As much as I could
Fast Food: I slipped once, but did my best to make a good food decision.

I about died this morning when I took these measurements… this totally explains how I fit back into my size 8 jeans, y’all! In fact, today I’m wearing another pair. I still have some muffin top and tightness in them, but they pull on! Thank goodness because sweatpants all winter could have been horrible.

As I said before, I ate out once this week, last night actually. I also had to give up a run yesterday because we went to a movie screening and the logistics to try to get all that accomplish and not get stuck in traffic were too much. So I chose the healthiest meal I could have and had a salad, but I also had a piece of cheesecake. heh However, I must say I was thrilled to lose a pound still, so I’m guessing I was low on calories going into the meal plus the salad and veggies probably helped. :) A whole other post is coming soon on the screening and eating out as gluten-free. :)

Today we’re going to the gym to make up for the lost run. I can’t believe this weekend is my last long run before the race, it’s kind of crazy!

Hello all! My tribe finally decided on a name this week: Tribe Silver Belles! We really got to know each other more this week and I’m definitely feeling the love and support, it’s fabulous!

This Week: 145.8 lbs
Last Week: 147.2 lbs
Challenge Total Loss: 1.6 lb
Total Weigh Loss since August ’10: 8.2 lbs

Week 2 Challenges:
Minutes: 384 or 6.4 hours!
Fast Food: NONE!

Here are my other stats for the week.

On Saturday I ran for 10 miles and this weekend I will run for 12 more so I’m really hoping I can continue this no fast food and more water for this week. It was tough for this challenge because we were running out of food options and having to get creative, but I’m proud we did it and it saved money because we just didn’t have any to eat out and spare.

How was your week? Tell me about it in the comments below. :)

I am on tribe Silver, woohoo!

This past week was a milestone for me, I ran 8 miles! I was hoping it would help me out on the scale, but it looks like the scale wasn’t going to budge much for me. Last week I was 147.4 and today I am at 147.2. A small loss, granted, but not a big number like I wanted.

Water wise was horrible this week. When I’m in school, I tend to drink less because we have 3-hour classes and I hate the feeling of having to pee while in class. I’m also a goodie two shoes who won’t leave the classroom except for breaks, so I reserve my “drinking” for when I’m at home or work, hence a major loss of water drinking this week. I did hydrate well for my run, so at least that was something!

I’m pretty pumped up for this next week… I am doing 10 miles this weekend, ahh!

My measurements didn’t change much, so I think I might start just posting them once a month, although I am still taking them weekly.

One last thing, last week was the first time I’ve ever obtained my goal on the Wii Fit. I lost 3 pounds from the previous goal and it danced around for me, yay. :)

I ran 8-miles on Saturday. The Middle Half marathon is coming up in less than a month so it’s pretty crucial to do some long runs before then. In fact, I will be doing a 10-miler this weekend, followed by 12 and 8 before the big day. I’m pretty excited!

This was my first run outside in forever, since back in Memphis when I did six miles. I have to say, I really enjoyed myself. I forgot that the Greenway is not exactly flat. For those who don’t know Murfreesboro, we have a series of trails that go beside of the Stones river. There are at least 10 miles of these trails, and they keep extending it on, hoping to eventually connect to the Nashville Greenway system. I started in a familiar section and then ran part of the newer trails that extend across the interstate. For those familiar, this meant I went across to the new Cason Lane trail head and back again.

About a mile into my run I ran through one of our parks and it was apparently the annual Greenway Art Festival because there were booths along my trail and I had to dodge a few people. I pretended it was like they were all there to see me race, much like it would be like at a marathon. I was surprised by the surge of energy this gave me, and I must admit, I enjoyed every moment of the park.

After another mile, I reached the point where I had never gone before. Back when it was first open, Gray and I walked about a mile on the new trail, because I wanted to see where it passed over/under the interstate, but we gave up before we got there. It turns out the Greenway goes under the interstate and I’m not going to lie, I was seriously paranoid that a car was going to flip off the interstate and kill me. Yes, I am paranoid. Another mile and I reached a bridge and paused to take this picture.

When I made it to the Cason Lane trail head I was halfway through and sweating buckets. Not even a mile headed back I came across this dude…. (pardon my finger)…

I was nice and helped him to the other side of the road and probably scarred him for life.

The Art Festival was still going on when I came back through and it was super crowded.
Note to self: Run earlier on Saturday morning to avoid people and the sun.

I made it back to the car and promptly died. Ok, not really, but I was super tired! I used the new Nike GPS iPhone app and it was super accurate for what it is, better than the sensor ever was, at least for me.

I must say, it took forever for me to recover from the run. I wore my compression sleeves for a good few hours afterward, even to the library!, and my knees were kind of sore. Sunday I still felt sore and my muscles were starting to show signs of soreness. I can definitely understand and better appreciate why we are supposed to cross-train and life weights while training because of the injuries that can occur. I will definitely be sticking to my schedule better for this last month.

While I ran Gray had a group project meeting, but he did go to the gym and run that afternoon. I have convinced him to do the Couch to 5k program and hopefully he’ll run a 5k with me in November!

Over at the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans, we are starting up a new challenge in which all the people participating are divided up into tribes, like as in Survivor the TV show. Our challenge is a very similar idea and while you can no longer join a tribe, you can still “play” along. I am on Tribe Silver!

I start the challenge at 147.4, down from 148.8 of last week! My goal is to see the 130s this challenge, but I’d love to kiss them goodbye as well, we’ll see how well I do!

I will measure later and edit this to add them.

Training wise: I was sick for the last week and a half but yesterday I got back on the trial with some speed work. It felt so good to be running again! I’ve researched energy/electrolyte solutions for my big run on Saturday and will update you next week on what I choose.

Gluten-Free: I am actually enjoying this aspect. After some flair ups from Memphis and a very sick Becca for the next week or so, I determined that not eating gluten was better. I haven’t had any stomach problems in almost two weeks! Amazing! It forces me to eat healthy as well, no more junk food, because I can’t have it… however I have been trying out some soy/rice chips and they are pretty decent. We also made our own ice cream which is awesome and I will never buy it out again, but of course, heavy on the calories…

Anyways, I am enjoying being gluten-free and I’ve gotten used to it, if only Gray would…

So the challenge is over. Last week I weighed-in at 152. I was pretty sad I had gained back the weight I lost, but I began the challenge at 154 so it wasn’t a total flop.

This week I am down to 148.8. The main difference being that I’ve been sick the past week and lost my appetite. I would have big meals here and there, but my hunger has gone away. Not sure what is going on, but honestly, I am glad I haven’t been bingeing on cookies.

For those who are still keeping up, I decided to stick with gluten-free. I won’t go super out of my way at restaurants if it’s difficult, but our meals at home are all gluten-free. It makes me feel better and it’s definitely healthier. I’ve had a few “side effects” from eating gluten since the change so I know gluten does affect me somewhat.

This past weekend I finally got some new running shoes! I also came away with a new sports bra, new running socks, and some compression sock sleeves! I wore all four yesterday on my run and it was pretty awesome. The compression sleeves definitely helped me out and I didn’t have to use my heating pad on them last night! I do have another issue though, my right foot starts falling asleep after running and from what I can tell it could be a few things: 1) my shoes are too tight – However this happened with the old ones as well, so not sure about that… 2) I have shin splints and it’s getting so bad it’s cutting off circulation down there – most probable cause, going to have to stretch more before running. 3) I could have anterior compression syndrome which would not be good.

I’m still training, despite the week off. I’m supposed to run 8 miles on Saturday. *dies*

The raft post will be up as soon as possible. :)
