Something came to me the other day as I was thinking about Michael Jackson and Steve McNair’s recent deaths. There are two sides to their deaths, the “Oh how sad, what a legend” and the “What a horrible man, he deserved what he got!”

I personally was sad to hear about both deaths. I am a big fan of Michael Jackson’s earlier music and he was a musical genius. Did he had issues, sure, don’t we all? I just think that in this time, we really shouldn’t be worrying about what he did or did not do. We all have baggage in our lives and personally, if when I die people bring up some of mine, I’m pretty sure it’s not going to be fun for my family or friends. It’s hard enough for their families to be losing them, and having to deal with people whining about their pasts.

I did not watch either memorial/funeral but my mom did and said that she particularly enjoyed the eulogy given at McNair’s. Basically, the preacher reminded everyone to not judge McNair’s past failures because we all have our own. Yes, he was in a spotlight and I’m sure he realized his actions would be over the news if heard. However, in a time of mourning, I’m pretty sure his wife and kids would tell us he was a good guy and would want to remember him for the good times.

So that is my point of view. I’m not blind to the fact that both men have huge allegations against them, I just think that it does no good to keep bringing them up when they are both deceased. What good does it actually do?
