I’ve been talking a lot recently about the protest at MTSU. Well, yesterday Gray and I went and protested MTSU’s proposal of cutting/merging 40 majors.
We were there for about a half hour and it was amazing! It’s not very often that you see college students in these parts standing up for something, but they sure did yesterday.
Nothing has been decided yet, but I did hear that Dr. McPhee acknowledged the protest, but reminded us that budget cuts still have to be made. My understanding is that it’s either majors or a tuition hike. Now, I don’t want to pay more money, but I’d rather pay more to keep our university where it is in regards to reputation. If these majors get cut, we won’t be up to par anymore, and it will ruin several thousands of students’ lives.
In a few weeks Dr. McPhee will share with us his proposal and we’ll have more discussion over it, until then I’m praying that something good will come out of all of this.
