Not ready for a marathon yet
On Sunday afternoon Gray and I started jogging. The plan is to go jogging on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and hopefully on Saturday or Sunday afternoons. We keep hydrated by using Gray’s camelback. We used it before as Disney World to keep from having to pay outrageous prices for water and it worked so well we decided to try it for jogging. It works well, folks.
Well, Sunday we got a bit sidetracked when I remembered a huge house we drove by on our way out of town to go to Sweden in May of 2007. Over a year later, I remembered the house and wanted to drive by it. Of course, we didn’t remember the route to get there so we drove around a lot to try and find it. All this talk about a gas shortage and we’re wasting gas trying to find a house? Yeah, pretty much. We spent probably a good hour looking for it and never found it. However, I count that hour well used because we now know the North part of Murfreesboro even better than we did before.
Back to the jogging… we went jogging yesterday afternoon and immediately I was in pain. See, on top of all this jogging I’m doing my pushups on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays AND I’m doing a workout DVD on those days (which I’ve yet to do today…). So my legs were very sore when I started jogging yesterday. We’re trying to build back up endurance, mine is very crappy at the moment. I did Cross Country in high school but I was by no means that great at it. Right now my endurance is not even a mile. I know, kind of sad. However, I haven’t exercised properly in a few years, so I’m basically out of shape. My goal is to eventually build up to be able to do at least 3 miles at once. I am thinking VERY hopefully, huh?
Anyway, Gray and I are jogging at the Greenway because they have every quarter of a mile tagged by a pole. the Greenway itself is about 4.5 miles long and I figure it’s a good training ground. I’ve never been a big fan of running outdoors, it’s harder on my knees, but I find it refreshing to run at the Greenway and with Gray beside of me, we have built in trainers/support, like yesterday when I told his butt to keep running. Hah.
So, I have a long way to go, as does Gray, but I’m hoping we’ll be in better shape AND health in just a few short months.
Oh and when we were leaving the Greenway yesterday we totally saw someone’s clothes and shoes on one of the bridges (the Greenway runs by the Stones River and the bridges go over it)… someone was swimming in the river… I’m pretty sure they were naked. (Edit: They weren’t; it was only shoes and a shirt left on the bridge. – Gray)

Way to go guys. Getting into shape is a great benefit for living a healthy lifestyle. Hope to see you get to your goal. Love it. People moving and improving their health I am all for.
that is just great! i think i'll try to convince hubby that we go jogging together.
I commend you. I dream of running a marathon but know it's not possible at my age. However, my son is a marathoner and is running in the Chicago marathon next month. It took him quite some time to build up to this, but it is possible! Keep up your work!
Good luck with that. I've come to the conclusion that running is just not for me. I find it boring, and hard work. I'd rather be flat out in a squash court, or playing badminton, doing something I enjoy, with the added benefit of getting fit!
pkayfit » thanks for the encouragement. We're very excited about the results. :)
timi » You should! Running with Gray has proven to be great for us. It releases our stress and we get to spend some time together. I highly recommend it!
Patricia » I think we're still a ways off from a marathon but maybe someday. :)
Gary » We used to be the same way. Gray and I played racquetball in college and now he wants to play tennis. I just like the running because it's something I've always wanted to be able to do long distance. I did read that Britney Spears likes to dance to lose weight because running builds up her leg muscles, something she doesn't like.
