Why there are towels everywhere in my kitchen
I realize that not everyone is a fan of hearing about my pet chinchilla. However, this little story is too good to not share with the internet. I told it tonight to our friends, Chad and Trina, and they erupted into laughter. It’s that funny.
You see, the other day we let Chile out of his cage. I’ve read that chinchillas need exercise to stay healthy and that they start to bounce off walls when they know their surroundings. I had seen Chile bounce off the walls a few times, mainly under the table, because that is his favorite hiding place. I knew chinchillas were smart, he figured out that running into the hallway got him caught because he had no way out. I enjoyed this for the first five times it worked because I actually got to hold him. Chile is not a big fan of being held so I enjoyed those moments.
So, a few days ago he began to become more adventurous when he was let out of his cage. First he found the kitchen table with all sort of neat things to climb over such as the chair legs. Who knew chair legs could be so much fun? Then he found microwave cart number one. We have two in the kitchen, one for the actual microwave and the other holds some utensils and the cookbooks. we also currently have all our pots and pans beside of it because the pot rack fell down. We still need to fix that.
The fact that he found that cart to hide under wasn’t so bad. I could actually reach under it to get him. Then he found cart number two, aka the cart from my parents house that was originally my cousin’s. It’s rather old and falling apart, not to mention the fact that I can’t reach underneath to get anything, let alone the chinchilla. Chile likes this fact because, (A) he doesn’t like the sun and it’s nice and dark under there and (B) he doesn’t like to be caught by Becca.
I could live with both carts being a hiding place for my little rat chinchilla. That’s when he discovered that, “Hey I can fit under the fridge… ooh and the stove!” I had no idea what kind of wires he might find under there or he fact that he might get stuck.
Gray was trying to get him out and I was getting very frustrated. Then I heard a rattling noise. I was seriously trying to figure out how he could make that noise under the stove when I realized where it was coming from.
Our stove has a drawer underneath where I keep the baking utensils like cookie sheets and the pizza stone. I pulled the drawer out and there he was, looking like he was not quite certain where he was and it stunned him long enough for me to pick him.
Tonight we had Chad and Trina over for our weekly couple’s game/snack night. Trina asked why there were towels everywhere on the floor of the kitchen. I just stated, very simply, that the towels are there to keep my chinchilla from making me go crazy.

Oh my God…that's too funny. I'm glad my dog is too dumb to squeeze under those kinds of places.
