Having a pet chinchilla is kind of like having a puppy… or a toddler. He gets into everything he’s not supposed to, like computer wires.
Chile is becoming even more fun to have around than I imagined. At first he was just interesting to watch, because he was scared of every move we made. Last night we let him run around the living room while a few friends were over so we had more people to catch him if he got into trouble.
Today Kelsey came to visit and we let him out for a bit. He was calm enough that we all got to hold him and he ran back and forth over our arms.
There are many reasons why I’m very happy to have a chinchilla.
- He doesn’t smell.
- His fur is thick so he doesn’t get ticks or fleas
- He bathes himself in dust
- He’s not big enough to do damage to furniture (unless we left him alone for a few hours)
- His fur is very silky
- He’s not ugly as some rodents are, but cute!
- They live for up to 15 years!
